Rory Bruemmer: Conservation for the Nation

Today, Americans have been defying the new ways to save the environment just like the early settlers did to pioneer the west. This conservation of environment helps our lives and our grandchildren's lives and makes sure that they will have the same privileges as we do. In contrast, some environment conservation is too extreme and could jeopardize the economic system.

While president, Theodore Roosevelt used environmental conservation as a huge part of his campaign. He wanted to progress the current status of the environment. In this article, Stewart Udall explains what Roosevelt did to change the environment. Roosevelt and his partner in crime Gifford Pinchot confronted congress and brought up the idea of building dams and homestead-style irrigation projects in dry places in the West. Roosevelt as well increased the national forest size when he "replaced a century old policy" about land disposal. He replaced it with a new policy for land to be set aside for conservation.  President Roosevelt was a revolutionary because he was able to change things for the American people that no other president did.

The uses of green energy has made a big effect on the environment by having little to no emissions. They have recently become popular in the last 15 years and are making a change for everyone. In this recent article, they describe that fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas have a way bigger impact on the environment in air pollution, habitat loss, water pollution, etc. than renewable sources. Having this change in emissions and cost efficiency makes a huge change in the way we can live, and how we consider our carbon footprint.

Several organizations have also contributed to the change in environmental conservation through the 20th and 21st century. One of them is the United States Environmental Protection Agency or the EPA. The EPA is an organization that helps right policies and regulations to create protection for human health and environment. With this organization, pollution in water, air, and land has been reduced. This change has helped human health and helped save the environment.

Today, we let life past us by. There are so many distractions that keep us from noticing the important things in life, one being the environment. Even though we have changed a little in order to conserve the environment, we are still losing it. If we don't change our ways soon, we will lose the only thing that keeps us alive. Planet Earth.

  1. What are your thoughts on how the U.S can actually implement more green energy policy? I feel like we have a lot of plans for breaking dependencies on foreign oil, etc., but as far as effective policy goes it seems like we're behind a lot of European nations in the way of reducing carbon emissions and things.

    1. In my opinion, I strongly believe in the green energy policy. Europe is way ahead of the U.S. in this green energy trend, but everyone still needs to improve on their policies and green energies. Here's a pie chart showing the CO2 produced per country, and it shows how the U.S. has a huge influence of the environmental destruction. Chart

  2. Interestingly, we were also pioneers when it came to creating carbon emissions: the car is an American icon. How ironic. Perhaps that's why, as Helen notes, we are behind the curve when it comes to reducing our carbon footprint.

    1. It's really contradicting. The U.S. has a huge influence on the carbon emissions and could change only if the energy policy is changed for the better. I believe that the U.S. is improving on new renewable energies but at a very slow pace. In order to make a difference, the U.S. needs to change.
